Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. Without refrigerants, air conditioning would not be possible. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be legal to produce as a result of its destructive impact to the environment. Introducing R-410A To lessen environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now engineered to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and is free of chlorine, which means it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel great about using this refrigerant in Belton because it’ll help make your cooling system perform efficiently, reliably and quietly, and deliver the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was manufactured before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You might think about upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is totally phased out. The old refrigerant will become hard to find in the next few years, costing you more to run your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Bell Air Conditioning Inc. work with R-410A, so you can rest assured we have an AC or heat pump you can better rely on. Additionally, refrain from using”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
